Ok, I will. Bow to the Photoshop god you dogs! Nothing else is  
acceptable! (just kidding)

Photoshop has the reputation for a steep learning curve. However, the  
ability to do some amazing things quickly is undeniable. I have tried  
to use other tools since then, and have been frustrated that in no  
time I find there's something I can't do, or do easily. Just my  
personal experience. The amount of third party freebies and tutorials  
is vast and unmatched. Overkill? Perhaps. Swift and effective?  
Definitely.

Think of it this way. You don't need a Ferrari to go to the corner  
store for milk. You can take the extremely capable Buick! Or a BMW!  
There are lots of good tools out there. And I'd even throw Illustrator  
into the mix. Check your budget, and decide from there. But for me  
personally, the Ferrari is in the garage....
