In the field of web analytics here are a few I'm aware of and my
(somewhat second-hand) understanding of them...

http://offermatica.com/ - This software lets you set up multiple
versions of various content on a webpage and shows different
combinations to different visitors to see which is more successful. So
you can make two different headers and 3 different menus or what have
you and it will serve up 6 combinations and track the results.

http://www.omniture.com/ - Beyond traditional web analytics their
software is also capable of details like "if you're interested in these
jeans here are some other items you might be interested in based on what
others bought." (It runs Gap.com.) Does click tracking and all that.
This is really heavy duty stuff.

In terms of the test we saw earlier, using realtime AI-type software to
try to create the most successful site is a great idea, but
unfortunately there's very little you can design by averages. You can't
average a font, among other things.

But anyway, if you're really interested in this stuff, Omniture is local
and they're hiring... You might want to brush up on JavaScript. :)
