Let's slow down before making an allegation of malicious intent on
the part of somebody on the list. You have to remember that there are a lot
of different entities on the internet, many not human. You have indexers
like google and the other search engines hitting domains and following the
links trying to map everything, you have worms looking for vulnerable
servers, you have bots scanning for vulnerabilities, etc.
Me personally, I can't think of the last time a week went by that I
didn't have a significant amount of port scans against one of my servers.
Or, ask Wade about how many times he has to wipe spam off the comments of
our events on the uphpu.org website. Despite our best efforts, people act
in a way contrary to how we as developers desire.
Now, Justin, here is something to consider. The link you provided
is available right off the page that comes up when you hit the domain. This
means that that page is highly visible. Did you take the steps required to
secure your application? Maybe put in some logic that says one vote per IP
address, or some other way. Maybe CAPTCHA (though I personally hate
captcha) or modified CAPTCHA.
Think about it.
