Another point to be made is that this discussion seems to be
inconsistently bouncing between web-based and local based apps. I
wouldn't use javascript to build a local app and Apollo isn't for web.

In regards to web, flash is a standard. 98%+ penetration for the past
few years says so. I wouldn't consider it and AJAX as equal
contenders however since they (in my opinion) should be used to solve
different requirements. In regards to Silverlight, it won't even be a
consideration of mine until it has significant penetration. I have
also yet to year any reason to use it. What benefits does it have
over Flash?

In regards to local apps, I really don't like apps that require a run
time engine to use. I am already running an OS, why do I need
something else? I detest java apps; they are clunky, slow, and never
follow standard conventions for my operating system. I understand
that developing java apps and Apollo apps is nice on the developer
because they are cross-platform, but I as a user won't use them if I
have a choice. It's like SMARTY… why introduce another layer on top
of your system?
