I understand where you went with this paragraph. But, DUDE! Too much
changes in 5-10 years. 10 years ago, I was writing sites for
640x480px and 36k connections. Back then, a dynamic site or a site
that connected to some other technology was a big deal. Back then, a
cup of coffee cost 10 cents. Come on back! Ya have to be fluid,
always casually learning new technology without embracing it until it
has proven itself. Anyway, enough with that, here's what I think:

Flash is well established. Adobe is well established. Adobe is
investing a lot of time and money in their web technology, and they
have A LOT of horsepower. So, that's not a bad option. But it is
proprietary.

JS/AJAX is also a good option. JS has been around for a long time.
And AJAX is doing some good stuff on the net. Frameworks come and go,
some stay longer I guess, but I'd embrace the underlying technology
rather than the framework itself.

I don't give M$ much credence. They throw millions around like chips
on a poker table. If the technology takes off, cool; if not, no
biggie... at least for them. I'd wait till the last minute before
embracing their technologies.

Timothy
