It is often overlooked. However, I think the phrase "Content is King"
includes the natural process of other sites linking to your articles because
the content *is* good. You can help that process along, but if you have
great content you'll get links without even looking for them. At least
that's what the search engines assume. And they're getting smart enough that
if they just find a link to your site that isn't in context it won't weigh
very heavily towards your site. In otherwords, if you just stick links back
to your site at the bottom of all your clients pages, it won't help as much
as you hope and it might hurt you as engines get smarter.
