Okay, so its mostly Mac and Joshua.
And maybe Joshua is just vying in because he likes to argue with me
(and lose).
:o)
I just find it interesting that when I've argued for a "pure"
implementation (whatever that really is), I seem to have received two
main responses:
1. I can get by with what I have, and it works for me.
To this, I say: You have different goals and client needs than I
have. Let's agree to disagree, because there really isn't any ground
you can cover here if you have vastly different needs to supply for
your clients and your own development strategy.
2. Every situation is different, and no implementation is pure.
Resorting to hacks will happen.
To this I say: Well, yeah. But the "pure" implementation is my goal,
and I'd like to get as close to that as I can. I'm not going to spend
days trying to stay CSS-righteous, nor slit my wrists if I resort to
the occasional hack (tables included). But I'm not going to say its a
good idea, or justify the usage of the hack, or want to do it again,
either. Any project has a hack-debt associated with it, and I want to
keep that as low as possible in order to avoid problems down the
line. That probably goes without saying, and I think Joshua might
agree with this stance.
Of course, this drawn out discussion might just be the idealist in me
not communicating with the pragmatists in the group. :)
