I've dabbled in CSS a bit, have done some semantically pure,
CSS-driven-layout pages, but have never really had the energy (or
time) to tear apart a page and redo it with CSS.

Anyway - how does one learn the box model and floats? Floats have
always given me trouble. I can use them, but it's like the Magician's
Apprentice, invoking things that I don't understand and hoping they
turn out correctly. Teach me, O Guru! Or at least point me to a good
tutorial.
