The list has grown a lot recently and so most people on it don't know
me, but I think I should let those who do know that I'm leaving. I
enlisted in the Army National Guard a few months ago and I'm going to
Basic on the 28th, which is just a bit less than two weeks from today.
My MOS (job) is 11B (Stupid, Dirty Infantry Grunt) but I enlisted on
the 18X (Special Forces Candidate) track. So after I finish infantry
and "jumping out of a perfectly good airplane" school I'm going to
have the opportunity to spend two months trudging all over Georgia's
swamps, about 20 miles a day, carrying over 80 pounds, using a map and
compass to navigate and getting very little sleep. I am, of course,
thrilled that the Army is allowing me this opportunity.
If I get selected (there's about a 20% selection rate currently) I
will then go on to over two years of additional training to be an 18D
(SF Medic) and will receive my green beret at graduation. If I don't
get selected... well, as my recruiter said, "It's complicated."
While I'm going through training I am going to be writing letters
home. Some of them will be published on my blog, which you can find
at http://sf-candidate.livejournal.com/. Currently there's nothing
there but a placeholder which I am going to fill in with some
information about the Green Berets.
You guys have a wonderful community here. Thank you Wade and Victor,
and everyone else who has participated and contributed, for making the
UPHPU group what it is.

What is the largest power of two that has three zeros at the end of
its base 7 representation? (before the radix point, aka "decimal
point")
