Infoworld had an article a few months ago about Dojo and a few others:

Another framework they didn't mention is Xajax, which was developed  
by a local PHP guy:

http://www.xajaxproject.org/

Each framework is a little different (some are for functionality,  
others are more for show) but Xajax is the one I've used the most  
(for simple, functional Ajax) and I found it very easy to use.
