Don't give up!  The key to selling your software is in the marketing.
Microsoft has sold crap for years and been successfull because of how they
marketed their products.  That's the nice thing about this great country we
live in.  Your share of that market is out there waiting for you if you want
it.  Try not to be daunted by the  (number of) competitors.  That's what
they want.  My (humble) advice is to go for it!
