After noticing their download and reading the not so end-user friendly install file, I finally thought to try looking through the packages available through my distro. Searching for the terms "link" and "check" brought back some very potential leads.

htcheck looks like it might suit my needs.

Even after consistently using Linux for 3 years I still don't always think to check the distro's repository before going on a wild google chase. (although google generaly does a good job)
