Although not really on the topic of database "design" I would also be 
interested in these things.  I would like to find a good "real-time" mysql 
monitoring tool.

Perhaps in addition to database design we could also learn more about 
database administration and performance tuning.  A good design can also be 
a very effective way to increase performance efficiency.
