OpenOffice runs on OS X through X11. NeoOffice is a port of OpenOffice
to OS X.
The employees at the Apple Store most likely don't know any better than
you do when new iBooks (or MacBooks) are going to come out. Internet
rumors say this week, but they said the same thing last week.
Apache on OS X is pretty much the same as it is on any other system. In
my web development class last semester, the instructions the professor
gave for configuring Apache on Linux all worked on my iMac.

Well actually I'm thinking I might be able to dual-boot Osx and Linux on
intel macs - to at least help the transition (just since I've got lots
of stuff set up for Ubuntu and can get work out until the learning curve
is over and most rpts are in open office which I've heard doesn't run on
Mac). Apple store not helpful on arrival date of new intel ibooks -
though I need to make a decision asap (and cant' afford Pro right now).
I've learned the hard way - with pc's (especially laptops) you get what
you pay for so even if Dell is less money, so is the quality.
More Mac PHP questions:
1) does OSX use same Apache conf that will allow me to run only as
localhost for development so it's not open to public ? Anyone else set
up this way ?
