I usually run "rdate -s time.nist.gov".

root:~# date
Sun Jun 11 08:56:44 MDT 2006
root:~# rdate -s time.nist.gov
root:~# date
Sun Jun 11 08:54:19 MDT 2006

There are NTP services that will run the updates automatically.
