FWIW, OpenOffice / NeoOffice have gotten a lot more Mac-friendly, so if
you haven't given them a try on a Mac in the last 2-3 months, I would
encourage you to try it again.
NeoOffice is still a bit out of date last time I tried it, but at work
everyone uses the latest OpenOffice on their Mac, and it works very well.
On of the recent "friendliness" improvements is that it now auto-launches
X11 for you when necessary, without needing to start it independently.
(For those who don't know, both X11 and OpenOffice are extremely easy to
install on Mac OSX.)
Out of curiousity, what is so much better about MS Office that you're
willing to pay about $200 to the evil empire in order to use it?
