This doesn't necessarily mean that doing it their own way was bad, but that
(maybe not incompetent but) mis-guided developers took a wrong turn. Also,
management didn't have what it took to straighten it out. MS kicked them
the rest of the way down and then kicked them while they were down and then
dropped depth charges to finish them off. It was ugly all around. BTW, MS
has had many wrong turns from people insided who wanted to do it their own
way. But they have always had the resources to weather the storms.
