I would also add a touch of fanboi-ism, and possibly a little  
elitism. There is always the right tool for the job, and throat  
ramming is never a tactful way to bring an idea across. I've met with  
similar responses.

Broad generalization probably isn't a good way to bring it across  
either. There are reasons for using mySQL rather than postgres, and  
these reasons are likely contributing to the fact that mySQL is  
(arguably?) more popular. Besides, there are more facets than the  
engineering side of things to look at when picking a vendor.
