I have used both Mantis and Bugzilla.  While Bugzilla is feature rich and 
very mature, I find the interface very unfriendly and even confusing. 
Also, depending on your install method, Bugzilla can be very hard to 
install.  Bugzilla is Perl based.  I am a Perl fan, but that does not make 
Bugzilla easier to install and configure.

Mantis, on the other hand is PHP based, very easy install, easy to use, 
and a much nicer user interface.  It also has quite a feature set that 
continues to grow.

Both have good community backing, although I would say Bugzilla has the 
large community of the two.  Mantis, like I mentioned, is not as old as 
Bugzilla.
