Open up your System Preferences.  In the "Other" section you should now 
have a MySQL item.  Click that and it should tell you what you want to 
know.

If the MySQL item is not in your prefs you can also check manually by 
opening a terminal and trying to start the mysql client:

/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql

Or whereever it is located on your system.
