[UPHPU] MySQL Mac OS10.4

I just downloaded MySQL 5.(whatever the current public one is) and I  
opened and installed the package and the startup item. I haven't done  
anything else, besides restart. Does that mean that on restart MySQL  
should start up on its own? How do I tell if it has started? If I  
need to do more is the best thing to do is follow the instructions in  
the readme?
