[UPHPU] Gentoo Install

I dis-agree. Initially I didn't like gentoo, but after I set it up a
couple times it was cake, I was pretty spoiled by YaST and forgot some
of the basics. With a build server I can now setup gentoo in about 30
min.

Also I've never seen a larger software repository available than with
gentoo. Now I know you can google to find software but there is nothing
like doing "emerge amarok" and be done with it. Since gentoo uses
sourcecode you can also get programs like Qmail that are not normally
available in pre-packed format. I've used rpm's/apt-get and portage is
more powerful, it gives you compile option that you just can't get with
any other system.

Example here are compile options with mysql:
+berkdb -debug +innodb +perl +readline +ssl -static +tcpd

If I want to use debug I and get rid of innodb I'd do the following
USE="-innodb debug" emerge mysql

Also if you have a network of Gentoo servers, when you use a build
server it's very easy to maintain a network of known software since they
update from the local portage server rather than from the net. And for
desktop if your like me there is nothing better for keeping up with the
bleeding edge on your desktop.

I admit I'd like to see a user friendly GUI for the install, but if you
understand Linux, these a good fundamentals that you should know.

I'd recommend to my dad or any other newbie or basic user I'd suggest
SuSE, for a power hungry user I'd recommend Gentoo.
