[UPHPU] more meeting attendees - feedback

In all seriousness though, higher attendance at meetings, and group
growth in general, can only benefit us. I think we've come a long way in
a short time -- and I think meeting attendance will eventually reflect
that. Our mailing list, in the beginning, had only a few people, and
almost no traffic -- but that has changed, and will continue to improve.

My ideas for increasing turnout:

1] We could contact publishers and ask them to donate LAMP books. Many
publishers will do this for free if we will post reviews on our web
site. Then, each month, we can "check out" books to people who attend
the meetings. Of course, they'd need to come to the next meeting to
bring the book back. :) I would be willing to help out by keeping track
of the library, if nobody else wnated to volunteer.

2] (We're already working on this) Consistency of time and place.
Ultimately we may want to find a slightly more central location --
somwething right around Point of the Mountian. But I'm hoping what may
happen before then is that our group might grow larger enough to justify
seperate SLC and UV meetings.

3] Bring a jar to which people can voluntarily donate -- use the money
to get donuts.

4] See if we can invite big names in the PHP world. This is self feeding
-- we need to have lots of people to get big names, and if we have big
names, lots of people would come.

5] Do something social. I only go to one PLUG meeting a year -- the
yearly outdoor picnic, swap meet, and what not. It's a lot of fun,
there's no presentation, and folks can bring their families. We all hang
around and talk shop, or throw a frisbee, or whatever. Every year I
bring the home-made root beer, and would gladly do it for uphpu.

6] Clothing-optional meetings! Wait . . . with our group that would
just scare people away . . .

I would love to see more members come out to our events
(presentations). Is there anything that we can do to make them more
valuable and appealing?
