[UPHPU] winds of change

I recently took the Smarty plunge, finally, and my initial reaction is
overwhelmingly positive. Even on projects where I am the programmer AND
designer, it really simplifies things, in my mind.
It's a little like when I'm deep in programming mode, and somebody
interrupts me, it can take awhile to get back "in the zone" -- using
smarty allows me to think about programming logic when I'm working in
PHP, and layout when I'm working in smarty/html/css.
I'm working on a very small project right now w/ Wade where we're
utilizing Smarty. Wade is helping me w/ some design issues -- and using
Smarty allows me to to think of each bit of information on the page as
an element that can be placed wherever Wade sees fit. On the PHP side, I
don't have to worry about layout at all -- just getting the data and
assigning it to the template. We can change the look and layout as often
as we want, and I never touch the PHP.
A good templating system, especially when combined with properly
utilized CSS, can really make things much easier -- and Smarty has some
really cool built-in functionality for working with data sets that makes
even displaying complex data fairly simple.

I think it may be time for a change...
I'm thinking of leaving my current php IDE - vim :) for another one.
What is driving this is a re-write of a real busy site. I'm planning on
(finally) using PEAR and maybe even smarty to help speed and clean
things up. I'd like the IDE to recognize PEAR classes, etc.
So my questions are:
What IDE (Linux) do you guys use / recommend?
Anybody using smarty or any other template system? How do you like it?
